Ulcer and Footcare Although leprosy is curable with Multi-Drug Therapy, the loss of sensation is irreversible, leading to lifelong ulcer recurrence. Engaging in daily activities and work can result in injury and ulcers, but these activities are necessary. Upon admission, patients receive repeated education on how to take special care of their hands and feet. They are provided with informative booklets and protective appliances to safeguard against ulcers while continuing their occupations.

Medical Professionals for inpatients for ulcer care
For inpatients, doctors are available around the clock, ensuring continuous care. Sick patients receive rounds twice a day, while others are visited once a week. Wednesdays are dedicated to ulcer rounds, where a team comprising a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, shoe technician, and ward aide assesses all patient needs, with a particular focus on footwear and preventing ulcer recurrence.

Physiotherapy Unit for inpatients for ulcer care
Inpatients receive regular physiotherapy sessions and educational sessions. The physiotherapy department conducts group discussions on self-care with various patient groups, such as women’s groups, youth groups, and the elderly. They also oversee daily wound care in the wards. Laser and Infra-Red therapy is utilized to expedite ulcer healing.
